Expeditions: Samurai – Feedback Was Heard, Updates Are on the Way

Copenhagen, Denmark / Vienna, Austria - August 24th, 2026: Expeditions: Samurai launched into Early Access a few weeks ago. While the team is already working on the first major update, we've read through the various feedback provided. Thanks to everyone playing the game and taking the time to let us know what could be improved! That's exactly why we chose the Early Access route: to learn what players would like to see in the game.

We will, for example, increase the party size from 4 characters to 6. You can expect to still bring 4 people to smaller levels such as castles or manors, but most levels will now allow 6 characters. The more, the merrier!

Additionally, your companions will soon be able to use their skills in dialogues, instead of your main character always having the last word (and the first … and everything in between). We will tweak the trade screens, improve the world map UX and the UI, and add a bunch of upgrades to stealth gameplay:

  • Enemies will enter combat more readily when they see you attack their allies.
  • Characters will now stay in sneak mode when executing a stealth takedown.
  • Ranged sneak attacks will get a cooldown.
  • Sneak attacks against aware or alert enemies will not deal bonus damage.

There's more coming soon, too – check out on what the team is working on here:

  • Rebindable mouse inputs.
  • More character creation options.
  • We have multiple new outfits coming, including a new default outfit for Kage.
  • Kage and Piet have both received face and beard updates to make them look better and match the detail level of other characters.
  • Some weapon models have been scaled down, notably daggers and pistols.
  • We have some VFX changes coming, including better gunsmoke effects for pistols, arquebuses/tanegashima, and the guns of De Albatros.
  • In a similar vein, some of you have noticed that the visual effect that plays when you regain an action point in combat was the level-up VFX from Rome. That was a placeholder! We'll be re-implementing that VFX as a level-up effect and adding a new, subtler effect for regaining an AP.
