We Didn't Stop the Fire: Developer Campfire Cabal Still Alive & Kicking

Copenhagen, Denmark / Vienna, Austria - May 20th, 2025: “Rumors of our demise have been greatly exaggerated,” says Campfire Cabal, a studio established in 2022 by former developers of Expeditions: Rome, Expeditions: Viking, and Expeditions: Conquistador.

Nearly two years ago, news broke that Campfire Cabal was facing potential closure and actively seeking a path forward. Today, Campfire Cabal and THQ Nordic are pleased to announce that a solution was indeed found.

Although Campfire Cabal had to say goodbye to some beloved colleagues, a dedicated core team managed to keep the fire burning and since March 2025, full production has been underway on their next game.

Although the new title must remain in the shadows for now, it can be confirmed that it is a brand-new installment in the Expeditions series. Yes, it will be a historical RPG set in a previously unexplored era and region for the franchise. And, as with every Expeditions game, this one represents another step up in quality and ambition.

Campfire Cabal will continue being an independent development studio under THQ Nordic and will be led by its management team and Creative Director, Jonas Wæver.
